About Huntington's Disease (HD)

Huntington’s Disease (HD) is a hereditary degenerative neurological disorder for which there is currently no cure. The symptoms are like having a combination of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and MS. This disease does not discriminate by sex or race. Onset can happen anywhere between birth and 80 years old. The average age of onset is 35-40 years old. After onset, the affected person experiences 10-25 years of slow painful mental and physical deterioration. The younger the onset, the faster the progression of the disease. For people under 35, the life span after onset is usually less than 10 years. Each child of an affected person has a 50/50 chance of inheriting this disease.
